What inspired you to build your homelab, and what’s its main purpose today?

I started off with a NAS to regularly backup my daily driver. After playing around with Plex, I slowly started collecting more hardware and decided to buy a mini rack to learn more about networking.

What’s one part of your setup (hardware or software) that you’re especially proud of — and why?

Designing and prototyping the 3D brackets to make everything fit together was a pain (took about a month to get everything to mount onto the rack). I had to get creative with the Synology mount to extend the height of the case by 0.5U to fit everything together.

What are your next plans, experiments, or dream upgrades for your lab?

I want to upgrade my rack to the T2 to fit more hardware into the empty slots. Thinking of running a Unifi router, an LCD touchscreen with a Raspberry pi with home assistant to control and monitor my servers.
